Manu Bhaker, the young Indian shooter, has added a new chapter to the world of Indian shooting with her unique performance. Born in Jhajjar, Haryana, Manu participated in sports like tennis, skating and boxing during her school days. Apart from this, she also won medals at the national level in a martial art called ‘Than Ta’.

At the age of 14, she decided to make shooting her career when the Rio Olympics 2016 ended. She asked her father for a shooting pistol, and with his support, she started her journey in this sport.

In 2017, Manu Bhaker set a new record with a score of 242.3, defeating Olympian Heena Sidhu at the National Shooting Championships. She won a silver medal at the Asian Junior Championships the same year and made her International Shooting Federation (ISSF) World Cup debut in Guadalajara, Mexico in 2018. Here she won the gold medal in the Women’s 10m Air Pistol final and defeated big names like Olympic gold medalist Anna Korakaki.

Manu Bhaker became the youngest Indian to win a gold medal at the ISSF World Cup when she was just 16 years old.. Along with this, she also won gold medals in the mixed doubles event. In 2018, she won the gold medal in the Women’s 10m Air Pistol at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.

In 2018, Manu Bhaker created a new history by winning the gold medal in Buenos Aires, Argentina at the Youth Olympic Games. She became the first Indian shooter and female athlete to win gold at the Youth Olympics.

In 2019, the pair of Manu Bhaker and Saurabh Chaudhary won gold medals in the mixed doubles event of the ISSF World Cup. They raised medal hopes for India at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, but their performance did not live up to expectations due to technical problems and pressure.

After the Tokyo Olympics, Manu won medals consistently in the junior circuit. She won silver in the women’s 25m pistol at the Cairo World Championships in 2022 and gold at the 2023 Asian Games. In 2023, she won a bronze medal in the 25m pistol event in Bhopal and finished fifth at the Asian Shooting Championships in Changwon to secure a quota for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Manu Bhaker’s journey, her hard work and her unparalleled performance have made her a shining star of Indian shooting.
